Classroom
Technologies:

A partial list of the technologies that I use within my own classroom:

  1. SmartBoard, accomanying tools, and the "educators bundle."
  2. Camtasia Studio - Students and I make various mathcasts (math movies) to enhance lessons. Mathcasts are then placed on the internet for world-wide use.
  3. GeoGebra - (Similar to Geometer's Sketchpad) A Geometry/Algebra construction program. It's Java capabilities are unmatched by other program. This allows students to work with and investigate mathematics from any internet connection. Best of all, it is free (open-source) to anyone, saving schools thousands of dollars.
  4. PMWiki - A program that allows anyone (teachers and students) to create and publish web pages with mathematical notation and graphs, and most other multimedia sources. Another open-source project.
  5. JSMath - A package that allows for dynamic math symbols on the web.
  6. VoiceThread - The ultimate in "authentic assessment." This (web 2.0) application allows students to submit input to given prompts / questions, by typing, voice, and / or in written form (with an inexpensive graphics tablet).
  7. Various Web 2.0 technologies, OpenOffice, Google Docs, blogs, etc.

Conference and
Workshop
Presentations:
  1. "Technology In Mathematics Education" (TIME) Conference, hosted by SouthWest Plains Regional Service Center and KATM (Oct. '07).
Presented material on "PMWiki", demonstrating and sharing the mathematical capacity, and ease of use, for teachers and students alike.

  2. "Technology In Mathematics Education" (TIME) Conference, hosted by SouthWest Plains Regional Service Center and KATM (Oct. '06).
Presented material on "ASciencePad" (web mathematics for high school students).

  3. Led Intel's "Teach To The Future" (40 contact hour) workshop for Unified School District 381, introducing teachers to the various, free tools offered by Intel. October '06 through March '07.

  4. 15th Annual "International Conference on Technology in Collegiate Mathematics" (ICTCM), 2002
Presented on the use of Microsoft's "Producer" in the classroom.

  5. Administrator of the "KSMath Forum" (251 members). This forum started with the purpose of building an idea/tool sharing community for Kansas math teachers. It has since been opened to all teachers of mathematics.

  6. Lead students to present one of thirteen “Exemplary Technology Projects” during the “Education Technology Fair,” February 2008, sponsored by the Kansas Department of Education.

  7. Presented “Authentic Assessment using VoiceThread” (web 2.0 application), at the “International Conference on Technology in Collegiate Mathematics” (ICTCM), March 2008

Professional
Organizations
and Affiliations:

I participate with several national and international organizations (communities), focusing on professional developemnt and global education.

  1. National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM)
  2. GeoGebra Forum / Wiki - A global community of mathematicians working to develop the program and create open-source modules.
  3. Math 247 - We focus on creating mathcasts and sharing ExamView expertise. Anyone can come in and ask math questions and someone from around the world will create a movie to address it. We also have a professional development section where we share ideas with other education professionals.
